Visit this museum if you are in the area. You will learn much about the Douro, its history, and produce. The museum isn't overly big and very manageable.

It’s a good and interactive explanation of the history and the process of wines in the Douro region.
Also with the possibility of taste a port wine in the end (although not impressive).

A great museum in a former warehouse showing the history of port wine making, with numerous fascinating artefacts. It showed the back-breaking work in the vineyards and the treacherous transportation of the barrels of port down the Douro River to Porto before the river was 'tamed.'
We had an excellent guide showing us round. All exhibits have descriptions in Portuguese and English.

Informative museum gave a great overview of the Douro River and how tough life is for those who live and work there. Our tour guide was very good, but there were two other groups in close proximity to us and it made hearing her difficult. The exhibits included maps, descriptions of the various areas along the river, tools used to harvest the grapes, artwork from local artists, and dramatic re-telling of catastrophes that have occurred over time. It was the end of the day and the museum was very warm and felt as though the air conditioning had been turned off. If there had been fewer people inside at the same time, it would have been a better experience.

Very informative museum that really added to the understanding and enjoyment of our visit to the Douro Valley. The displays are nicely set out with descriptions in English and Portuguese. The staff were also very welcoming.

The museum was actually very interesting and a cool respite on a very hot day. Sadly the visit was spoilt by incredibly rude staff. A glass of port wine was included after the visit at the 'cafe' but mistakenly we made our way to the restaurant, and we were not the only ones to do so. As the restaurant was looking very closed we wandered off to find the cafe but first I thought I'd use the toilet facilities. Whilst actually in the toilet cubicle someone started banging loudly on the door, shouting. I exited very quickly thinking there was a fire or something, to be confronted by a young lady shouting at me. 'How dare I use the toilet facilities without eating in the restaurant'. Apparently, they were not for use for the museum visitors! I apologised profusely and made a hasty exit feeling embarrassed and upset. By this time another young lady had joined her and both seemed very amused, laughing at my distress. My bemused husband, who was waiting for me, pointed out that I had done nothing wrong as the WC sign that I had followed did not indicate it was for restaurant use only. I went back and told them they should be ashamed of themselves for treating visitors in this way but I don't think they were very repentant.
So, management if you are reading this, please train your staff in customer service and put up some proper signage. The date we visited was 16.07.22

Nice small museum which explains the history, geology and culture if thr Duoro region very well.
Can get busy, so pick your time to visit to avoid coach and boat parties. Nice gardens overlooking the River too. Glass of port with the visit was interesting. The town feels more authentic, than touristy. Explore the bars and restaurants there if you have time.
