I've been wanting to hike to Hiji Falls for a while now and finally did this weekend. There is an entrance fee of 500¥ and the trail is about 1.5 km. The trail wasn't that hard but there were quite a few stairs to the waterfall. I liked that there were several options to hike, you can take the trail or go through the river. The waterfall at the end was definitely rewarding as it was a beautiful area and impressive waterfall. I saw so many fun animals along the trail to include lizards, snakes, and spiders! It was a great day!

Amazing waterfall and nice hike to it too. My family has fun it was a really hot day so we decided to jump in the water 💧. It was really cold but refreshing too.

Hiji Falls is a nice hike but not with small children. The boardwalks are extremely slippery and hazardous. Some of the boardwalks bridge steep cliffs and lack sufficient railing. The combination of slick walkways and insufficient railing make Hiji Falls very dangerous for children under 8 years old. Smaller children could easily slip under the existing railing and down a cliff.
This is not a bad review, merely an observation from a risk adverse parent. If you decide to take small children, watch them carefully. Some areas along the hike is a disaster waiting to happen. On the positive side, the place is beautiful and the river is very nice after the hike.

Hiji Falls is a hidden gem located in the forests of Yanbaru in the northern part of mainland Okinawa. Standing at 26- meters high, Hiji Falls is the largest waterfall in the prefecture.
The population density is low, therefore more of the natural forests is better preserved. If you are a guest of Okuma resort, please add Hiji Falls to your itinerary.
For those seeking an outdoor activity and desiring to explore the Okinawan jungle, then hiking Hiji Falls is a must. It is a convenient and popular hiking location. The trail round trip is about 1.8 kilometers.
Best time to hike is winter months or spring. I would avoid hiking it in the summer time. The hike is about strenuous due to the uphill incline and excessive steps. Well maintained trails. Please take plenty of water for hydration, good snacks and stop for breaks as needed. Lastly, wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
The waterfall is not huge but pleasing to the eye. It is roped off so I don’t think swimming in permitted. Good air quality and a great place to appreciate nature.

We took the hike on a beautiful Christmas Day. It's a comfortable walk at this time of year for anyone in reasonable shape. (I wouldn't want to do it in the heat and humidity of summer, or in the rain). No-one was using the campgrounds and only a few other hikers. Trails are well-maintained and no garbage to be seen.

Well, those who said the route was an easy route, should be quite fit. It takes a lot walking, at least 1.5km. The first part was relatively easy. The second part after the suspension bridge, was a little more difficult. There are many stairs to climb up and down. Well, you will be rewarded after the end. But remember, you need to walk back out.

The venue is abt 2hrs drive from Naha city and 50mins away from the aquarium.
There are plenty of steps. So if you are not a fan of climbing steps, you may want to reconsider.
However, it is a straight forward hiking trail.
The path is quite well maintain and is suitable for anyone who is fit to walk.
The waterfall is small but the air is good.
The toilet is clean and i do appreciate that

We went without knowing what's in it for us. I started to regret less than 10mins later. If you are fit, it's a 40mins one way. If not, maybe 50mins or more. Would not recommend for kids under 5 years. We saw lots of families with kids. Some carrying younger kids 2 to 3 years in their arms. There are many steps up and down, up and down, some are very steep. There is a river course option at a certain part of the trail. We took off our shoes and socks to try but the stones are sharp and hurting our feet. About 15steps away, the water was already knee-deep so we turned back to take the normal route. It was already 4plus in the afternoon but we perspire buckets. Do bring some water. At the end of the never ending seemingly up and down the countless steps, it was only a small waterfall that didn't allow you to jump in or freshen up with the waters. I will not recommend.

It was drizzling and we took a gamble.
The hike up looks us 45min as the route was muddy at some parts. Be warned, its not gentle climb up or down; There's steep climbs up and down. Fortunately, the trail is well maintained.
According to our pedometer, it seems we have climbed an equivalent of ~65 floors.
It's worth it. Standing close, I could feel the power of the waterfall, as I "absorbed" the negative ions :-)

I have a 3 and 6yrs old. we are fairly active at home. Will this hike be too challenging for kids?
Are there restrooms along the trail should you have to relieve yourself?

There is one little hut along the way but I would recommend u to go to the one at the entrance before u start the journey.
