- Vthc4Singapore, Singapore423 contributionsBeautiful looking area but somehow missing somethingAmerican Village is beautiful to look at and you can’t help but feel excited when you first visit it. Shortly after the excitement wanes, perhaps because it is not as bustling as Naha’s Kokusai Street. Shop mix is not exciting. It reminds me a little of Las Vegas when it lights up at night but it’s a little too artificial for me.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 November 2023
- ROCruiserClaremont, California4,566 contributionsLively and TouristyI assume this would be a crowded and fun place in the summer with beautiful beachside restaurants and bars. The area is filled with restaurants and stores with, yes, some kind of American influence. Western clothing, burger joints, with music blasting on to the street making this a lively and touristy spot. Some in our group found good sales and enjoyed their time here.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 26 February 2024
- OZS_ATWBudapest, Hungary3,728 contributionsNice programWe visited the American Village in January 2024, on a Saturday. We took a bus from Naha Bus Terminal, it was approx 1 hour to get there. The American Village was a nice and interesting place with several stores and eatiries, like a small piece of USA. We enjoyed walking aound and checking our some shops. It was more like laid back day for us. Going back to Naha, we took the bus and we really hit the Saturday night rush hour, it took almost 1.5 hrs to get back. All in all, it was worth visiting this place but do not expect too much!Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 March 2024
- BrigetteAustralia487 contributionsStay nearby to get the most out of this nice place. Fireworks every Saturday night around 8pm!We stayed nearby so every morning had nice walk to sunset beach. Great place to watch Sunset at 6:15pm. Shops mainly sells US/ Hawaiian style souvenirs, some Okinawa themed merchandise and v few arts and crafts. Good variety of local and western style cuisines. I found the Prices are a bit higher than other places obviously. Not many facilities for younger kids like playgrounds. More catered for adultsVisited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 April 2024
- Elsie D59 contributionsKitchy Tourist site - worth a visit. This is a large shopping/restaurant venue in Chatan. It is one of the closest group of takeout restaurants to Kaneda AFB and only a few minutes walk from several hotels along the beach. It seems like the Japanese caricature of what America would be like - very touristy. It is worth a visit but don't expect to be overwhelmed.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 April 2024

The American Village was built as a replica of a San Diego shopping street. This is not a bad place for a stroll along the beach, comfort food such as Taco Rice or Japanese fast food snacks, and having a look at the various shops - mainly selling clothes, collectibles. But it is also a very touristic place and the prices are relatively high since the shops have imported goods. Special mention though for the Bokunen Museum which was for me the highlight of our visit there.

It is a resort district with a nostalgic American atmosphere from the 1950s onward. The area used to be a U.S. military base in Japan. Although it is called "American Village," it can be used without showing identification.
The district is relatively compact, taking about 30 minutes only to tour around, but it offers a variety of entertainment facilities, including cafes, restaurants, movie theaters, live music venues, and a resort hotel. Each facility has its own unique personality, and the walls are colorfully decorated, making it enjoyable just to walk around without using each facility. There are also benches for resting here and there, so tourists can order take-out drinks and other items to enjoy eating and drinking.
Basically, you will need to use a car, but since the AEON Mall is attached to the district, there is a high possibility that the nearby parking lots will be full, especially on holidays. In addition, since the only major road is National Route 58, it should be noted that the area is chronically crowded and congested. Particular attention should be paid to those departing by air from Naha Airport.

Every lunch-dinner experience was awesome!!! All meals were prepared with exceptional care and detail. Regardless of which restaurant you visit, the customer service, meal size and the standard of excellence is displayed. The best food throughout my travels is in Okinawa, Japan.

Located in Naha city. A must check in place in Okinawa. Many restaurant you can easily grab your favorite food. There is a cinema here also. The time we came in afternoon so most of the restaurant still remain closed. I think better come by evening time.

Beware of the steps.
There was a nice noodle restaurant.
Good to take photo around only.
If you have enough time, a huge household stall nearby is worth to visit instead of those pharmacies.

American Village is a cool area in Chatan. I don't come here all that often, but the times I am here, it is a pretty cool place. American Village is full of shops, restaurants, and cool places to explore. It is located right by the ocean with great views. For the most part it is pretty clean and safe. I recommend coming here both during the day and at night. There are a lot of cool little cafes facing the ocean side that are worth going to in order to relax and take in the views. Not a whole lot of American shops or anything, but you can find American style restaurants. It's an enjoyable area and well worth a visit.

The title is actually all you need to know. Maybe Americans can see the charm of this small town, but I dont get why this is even considerd an attraction. It's just shops and some dodgy food options. It was part of my tour, but I jumped in a taxi after 5 minutes. I rather pay money to leave, than staying for free. It might have been a thing 60 yearys ago, but now it's just a bunch of crap.

I have been told by personnel at the Kadena Air Base that there is a location in the American Village that does the COVID PCR test with advertised turn around of two hours for results. Does anyone have information about that or can confirm?

Is this a good place to visit for Christmas lights display on Christmas Eve?
