- vidhusagar1,281 contributionsAn beautiful insight into village livingWe were in Bali with a bunch of friend for some of whom this was the first time. Was looking to take them to an organised village theme place and chanced upon this. Some of the reviews did mention that it was a bit too touristy. I would say, so what? the whole village was so charming, spotless and clean. You get a tase of the village houses, temple and the complete setting with some handicraft shopping thrown in to help sustain the locals. Great concept for those who dont have the time to go explore by themselves and an opportunity to visit the inside of the compound of almost all the houses there. Loved the experience.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 8 January 2024
- Zoe W74 contributionsUnique placeVery beautiful and unique. Every single house is connected to their neighbors and every single house has its very unique design. Although you need to pay to get into the village and although every house sell something, I think it is still worth of visiting this village. but if you want to buy something remember to bargain it HARD. we bought something which was 4 times more expensive than buying in shops...Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 April 2024
- Hawkeye4077Maitland, Australia544 contributionsAvoid shop but smile with the localsA very pretty and tranquil street (if only you could get rid of the poser photo takers). Clean walkways and welcoming people. You see the same, same in every shop so don’t waste your money. Nice 20 minute strollVisited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 April 2024
- MuslimJakarta, Indonesia24 contributionsPretty okayThis traditional village recently received a tourism award and international recognition. The village is not too big, so maybe just 15 minutes of exploring will be done. However, if you want to spend more time, you have to explore the bamboo forest. Come in the morning, not in the afternoon. Don't forget to buy the local specialty drink called Loloh Cemcem. If you want to rent typical clothes for photos, you can do it there too.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 April 2024
- RandySCalgary, Canada375 contributionsWell Preserved Historical VillageOur extended family visited the village and were very impressed. As advertised, there is no vehicle traffic on the street, and it is very clean. The building and monuments are very well maintained for a place supposedly 700 years old. We also found the inhabitants to be very friendly. Actually, each house along the main street is a shop selling some kind of food, drink, or souvenir. Perhaps what has protected the village is its distance from the main tourist area of southern Bali. It takes close to two hours to get to the village from the Kuta area. We did not have time to visit the bamboo forest on the north side of the village, but did drive through it. The quantity of bamboo was impressive and made virtual tunnels over the road in places.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 September 2024

After traveling all across Bali and Java, this site was a let down. While the traditional villages were certainly well kept (spotless in terms of litter and general upkeep) there are many other villages right around this area that offer a more authentic experience with the same architecture and style that one could experience. Every single shop has the exact same souvenirs. They are cheaply made and there isn’t a traditional thing about them. I wanted to buy something to at least support the people who have opened their homes to this concept, however I literally couldn’t find a single item worthwhile. I don’t even have photos to upload with this review because there was nothing worth snapping my camera for, sadly. My recommendation is to skip this site and spend time exploring a less touristy place.

The name of this village means going back to being happy. It is a village immersed in a bamboo forest which has over time become an obligatory tourist destination in Bali. The houses can all be visited which in my opinion has taken away a bit of spontaneity from the place making it a bit similar to Alberobello in Italy so to speak. The people who live in the houses are fantastic and very friendly, they let us try the fresh fruit without charging us and they pleasantly talked with us. Is it worth stopping by here? In my opinion, yes, it is worth a visit.

For me as a suberopolitan the most impressive were the last minutes before arrival, passing through a native bamboo forest, like our arrival at the international airport of Salvador and the most impressive welcome/bye from Brazil!
This put, Penglipuran is an ancient village next to a Hindu temple.
The particularity of this village, which obviously grew around, is the fact that people still live in each "house", which more looks like a market box, being all of them numbered and indicating how many people live in them.
Less than an hour from the center of Ubud, depending on traffic, the visit is usually part of tour packages for those who visit the region.
Entrance costs 50,000 rupees.

For the first time, we visited the Casting Village, which was named the world's three cleanest villages. And it has proven to be really clean, authentic, beautiful, and unique that is combined with Bali's typical culture and architecture. In addition, this village is home to consoles that go green and are not contaminated by motor vehicles. The history of the designation of the "melting village" has also been an attraction for Travellers, which began with the escape of the king of jayapangus to the village as a comforter of sorrow or lara. For by-by or cendramata that is offered the local residents are also affordable according to the Traveler's rates even cheaper than some famous by-by figures with similar products such as d*wat* and jog*r.

The village is interesting, both for how it is cared for but also for all the internal management of families very curious to discover.
The walk inside the bamboo forest is also very beautiful.
Too bad to perceive the tourist aspect of the thing, because in the end the people who let you into their property, more than for a convivial spirit, do it to sell you something you find in any market.
Anyway it is worth the visit.

**Ruined by Tourism**
We were disappointed to find the area overrun with coachloads of Indonesian tourists, all in Balinese "fancy dress," queuing for photos and selfies. It was a really odd experience dodging selfie tripods. The houses are now all shops selling identical tourist tat. The street was crowded, far from the quiet, lived-in village we expected. For a more authentic experience, you're better off exploring a nearby village with actual homes, beautiful frontages, and family temples.

I took my wife there to see this place. Entrance was Rp 55,000 for 2 persons which was reasonable. The road into the village had houses on both the left and right side. We were tempted by the durians and walked into a house. Asked her the price Rp 70,000 for a small durian. She agreed if not sweet she will change until we got the perfect one. When we Opened the durian was bad and uneatable. Told the lady but she refused to change. She said it’s a good durian She said the durian in Bali is like that. We have eaten durians in Singapore , Jakarta and Penang and never came across a bad durian. So gave her the 70,000 and started to walk out. Her mother saw the situation and offered a replacement durian which she selected herself. This one was good. The daughter tried to sell us salak and kopi Bali but we refused.
Beware when you come here. This is a tourist trap and a place to get scammed.

The village hours at from 8 am to 5 pm. This is a living village so lm sure the people need to get their dinner done for their family. My driver from Ubud Area Tours also took me to the bamboo village close bye after the village visit, really nice.

Hi,
We're thinking of visiting Penglipuran. how much time should we give the village and the bamboo forest? would 2 hours be enough? so we can plan the rest of our Ubud visit.
Written 5 June 2019
Yes two hours will be enough, the Forest is right next door to the village. My Ubud driver / guide also took me to a waterfall ( with a few steps ) close by before returning to Ubud.
