Very close to the famous, but crowded Tirta empul temple is this little water temple located. It is very beautiful and not any crowded. The water is very clean and helps to regain power.

The Mengening Temple is a beautiful water temple that is situated on a lush, landscaped hillside. It is estimated that this Temple was built around the 11th century, and is dedicated to the god of water. Today, the locals come to this temple to pray and collect holy water from the temple's springs which are believed to have healing powers.

This Temple has pools of water where both tourists and locals can come to perform a cleansing ritual that uses the waters to purify your mind, heart and spirit. It is believed that this cleansing ritual can help remove negative energies or bad karma.

UNESCO had designated this Temple as a World Heritage site because of its historical and cultual significance.

If you're looking for a place to do water purification that is not so "touristy", Pura Mengening is the one for you.

I love the serenity of the place. There are 2 pools. The first one is with water falls.

Before going to Bali, I asked Mr Ketut Suwenda to let us experience the water purification ritual, the Balinese way.

He and his team delivered more than we requested. They prepared the offering and after going into the water, we had the rice blessing as well. (13 pax).

We are so grateful for the experience. It's beyond words.

Until our next visit, Ketut.

And ... Thank you for the laughter, thank you for your patience. Thank you for the friuts. Thank you for arranging things even at a very short notice.

Thank you for giving your all to your clients.... A TRULY EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Not the easiest group to handle but YOU NAILED IT!

****(From July 29 to Aug 5, our group was handled by him, 45 pax total)

We went here by scooter from Ubud, lovely ride. The place is well maintained, quiet and we saw only a few other tourists. Less famous than other temples in this area, but certainly worth a visit!

My friend took me here. Not so big but it has beautiful holy spring. Located near by Tirta Empul. So quite as we come late afternoon. Currently they are doing some renovation. I don't know how crowded this place could be in normal situations.

Definitely worth going to. The temple itself on the hill with baths and pond full of fish below it. Everything looks authentic and old. There's no entrance fee, but the representatives of the temple who meet you at the entrance ask for a donation. You can leave any amount. They provide you with a sarong for free. There are two sections for bathing - one with a Waterfall for men and the other simpler one for women. Discrimination, I know. There are changing rooms. The water is transparent and refreshing.

We had a wonderful experience at Mengening which is a local temple just a couple of minutes from Tirta Empul with very few visitors. Similarly beautiful to Empul but without the crowds, Mengening allows a more thoughtful and engaging experience (and less of the souvenir hawking at the end). We were taken by our regular driver for a cleansing ritual and were touched by the experience. You should go with someone who understands the process, bring offerings and dress appropriately. There are changing rooms onsite (if you choose to enter the waters) as well as (not so great) toilets.

We participated in a Spirit and Stillness tour and our first stop was Mengening Temple.

We were first lead in a meditation by our guide. From there she explained the meaning of the ritual and how to complete it. Once we were done, she led us in a thank you ceremony at the temple. This was much more of an authentic experience than you will get at Tirta Empul Temple which was packed with tourists who didn't really understand the ritual that they were participating in.

If you want an authentic experience find a local guide who will take you there and walk you through this beautiful experience.

On of the most amazing places I have experienced in my life. Sacred waters, amazing beauty...
We were there with a priest who had done a special cleansing ceremony for us... Strong, beautiful.
I will return, for sure.
Worth to travel there.
