The discovery of oil is what put Brunei on the map. This monument is a commemoration of the one billionth barrel of oil discovered. It's a very quick pit stop if you're on the way but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it.

The monument lies next to the sea, with a large car park, interesting art works depicting the history of the Oil & Gas history in Brunei. The art was created by local artists over a 36 hours Live Art weekend in 2019. Lovely spot for watching the sunset over the ocean, seeing rare Pied Oriental Hornbills and photographing the ubiquitous Nodding Donkeys of the Seria oil field.
There are no facilities for food, water or toilets.

We decided to drive out to Seria from BSB for the day and this site was on the list.
The monument stands at the beach side edge of well maintained gardens and lawn.
There's plenty of parking and access is easy and safe.
The various placques around speak to the historical aspects of Brunei's oil industry.
Worth the visit.

Well worth a visit.

About an hours drive from Bandar_Ser i_Begawan. Lots to see on route. Take the coast route.

The museum in Serbia is closed but the old nodding donkeys by the sea are still hard at work extracting oil.

They are more interesting than the monument.

We went on the 5th of Feb 2019. The walk way towards the monument was covered with canvas. We assume there was some kind of renovation or beautification of the area in progress.

Still, we did manage to see some small, functioning oil pumps in the grass area near the car park, which was fairly interesting.

This is an interesting monument but looking very tired. Great views along the beach. More interpretation would be good for some background to the oil industry. Would have thought Shell Brunei could afford a bit of maintenance and upgrading!

A great monument and an historic place to visit. There is a car park nearby. There are no food stalls next to it however Seria town is only a stone throw away.
