Wonderful views from the castle which has undergone recent, sensitive restoration. Well worth the walk up. The guide Giovanni is available for a guided tour and is extremely knowledgeable. One of the highlights of our trip to Marettimo!!

We hiked this late in the afternoon in mid June. Didn't have time to go all the way to the Castello but hiked about 40 minutes in, which brought us to a viewpoint just prior to the last descent to the Castello. Marvelous views and an easy (shortened) hike, without much vertical gain.

Castle itself small and locked though! Go for the walk not the destination. Can swim off the rocks nearby

I came from Favignana by aliscafo for the day. I hiked a circuit, going there by the trail high up the mountain and back by the lower trail. 4 hours of hiking in total. I saw noone at all during my whole tour, well some kind of mountain deer/goat. The castle itself presents little interest.

Great panoramic views, interesting history and fascinating introduction into wildlife of the area (turtles, birds, fish,...)

The castle is really very nice and well maintained. The friendly and very knowledgeable Guide is able to convey the values of the site and the island in general. The rostrum of the Roman ship and the stone anchor are capable of enchantment, as well as the spectacular view.
You can also access the pits (former prisons).
Arriving by boat at the castle beach, you reach the monument with an uphill walk of 10/15 minutes (I hate to walk but I assure you that it can be done). I even climbed in slippers because the path consists of paved.
Along the way you can capture the beach and the cove.

Unmissable visit for those staying in Marettimo... charming and panoramic place to visit absolutely.
Recommendation for those who can, to reach it with the trekking route that starts from the village, because you can enjoy a spectacular view (bring water and hat!!!!!) alternatively easily accessible by taxi boat.
The place is great, but to be told with passion by Giovanni, the Guide, is a different matter!
The guided tour costs only € 5 (there is no pos, only cash) so it is absolutely to do, also because Giovanni will tell you, in addition to the real story, also interesting curiosities and anecdotes.
Nice place, well maintained and restored,... and 10 and praise to the sympathy and passion that Giovanni puts into his work!

Wonderful castle, better than Game of Thrones scenarios. Mandatory stop in Marettimo (the new Ithaca, find out about this). Reachable both by sea and by a nice walk by land. The competent and nice Guide.
To visit absolutely.

I really recommend this experience to everyone with a decent commitment but feasible early in the morning with water and proper shoes reach this castle via the mountains already makes you savor the authenticity of the place. You discover this fortress that guards the immensity of the sea and this magical island .. when you then meet Giovanni here is that magic becomes tale he, a rare person now, can only excite and appreciate the castle even more.
If you then spend the day in the pebble beach with crystal clear water and return by boat everything is practically perfect.
