Overview
More
Broadleaved plants and mature trees support, frame and enhance a changing collection of contemporary sculpture in the stunning garden that Hannah and Anthony created over 30 years ago. The Sculpture Garden now hosts nearly 150 pieces by 40 plus artists from Britain and the rest of Europe every summer season. There is a vast range of materials that can be shown outdoors; from the traditional carved stone & woods, cast & welded metals, to more contemporary materials such as glass and fired clay. The exhibition runs for 6 months over the summer season. The garden plays host to a number of schools, art and garden clubs, societies and other groups. Visitors often return year after year to see the ever-changing collection. The placement of the sculpture is the key aspect that makes Hannah and Anthony's garden so magical. A strong connection between art and nature is crucial; be it the way a plant frames the piece, how the piece accentuates the surrounding planting (such as the texture of the trees or the colour of the moss), or how a shaft of sunlight plays across the surface of the sculpture. In Hannah's mind, the most boring location to place a piece is in the centre of the lawn. Part of the joy is discovering pieces hidden in secluded parts of the garden; creating surprise and intrigue at every turn.

We took two of our Grandchildren to see the Sculptures; they probably enjoyed exploring the garden and acting as "pathfinders" more than the sculptures, which are very expensive but of high quality. 90 minutes just seem to fly by! Entrance fees were on the high(ish)...More

What a gem this place is! The gardens themselves are remarkable - even without the sculptures it would be worth visiting and spending some time exploring. But the sculptures really make the place special. They are carefully positioned, sometimes obvious, sometimes hidden, to create a...More

Excellent if slightly expensive attraction. Some interesting art - but it’s the gardens that are the real attraction. A great idea mixing art and nature.
