Overall: 2-3/4 stars The 10 rice warehouses are handsome buildings to look at, but otherwise the property wasn't very interesting. It deserves a brief stop if you’re driving through Sakata City, but I don't recommend going out of your way to see them.

What an informative place..it has a history of transporting of rice to different areas using the Mogami River. Those were some back breaking days!! I watched the series "Oshin", and they have several scenes of this area.

Visited here in a winter day, just before its closing time. So cold and deserted, but enjoy the feeling, by imagining Sakata's prospering old days. 冬の一日、閉館時間の直前に訪問。寒くて人もいない中、酒田が商都として繁栄していた時代を思い描きつつ、気持ちよく過ごせました。

very interesting to see how the construction was made. This was at one time a major center for rice and other products which travelled via river boats. The store is a bit pricy but very good selection of local products and sake!
