Rare opportunity to kayak down the serene Kitayama river. Katsu was incredibly knowledgeable and planned the logistics of our one-day trip perfectly, additionally offering driving and luggage storage services to keep our trip frills-free. Would highly recommend as a getaway from the typical tourist attractions in Japan!

It is amazing!! Really loved the hike and loved the kayak evenmore. It is the best way to know Kumano. Such a beautiful place. We encountered heavy rain in our hike and kayak but that does not stop us from enjoying ourselves a single bit. Katsu is a professional guide that helps us to plan the entire trip custom to our needs. He speaks perfect english and we feel safe and totally troublefree for the entire trip. We even requested onsen and he was so nice to accomodate 2 onsen visits on a 3 days trip. Highly recommended for people who like nature and want a hassle free trip, as he planned everything including lodging. Write to him directly to customised your entire trip. But I would recommend the river Kayak - it was just beautiful.

It was my first time kawaking and I was a little worried. However I can't push forward enough how Katsu -our guide- made it an outstanding day because he gave us a lot of information about how to handle the kayak and the story of the region. He speals fluenty English and He also had some protection for our camera so that we could take pictures whenever we want.
The Kumano river is beautiful, calm and easy for new comer like me.
The food was great and it was nice to swim in the river for a few minutes.

Be mindfull to bring to "underwater shoes" (like sandals) when it's hot because the stones might be really hot

In the end, go have fun on the Kumano :)

After several days hiking the Kumano Kodo it was time for a little more relaxed pace and time to see beautiful, natural Japan form a fresh perspective. Katsu provided the perfect experience. The kayaks were high quality complete with spray skirt and rudder. The river was quite easy with small rapids. Best of all it was just gorgeous. Went swimming twice to cool off. And chef Katsu made a fabulous lunch. All in all a perfect day.

Kayaking down kumanogawa was easy enough for us, beginners, so we had time to ask or be told of local history and customs. Katsu-san is kind, patient and knowledgeable about local life. We extended the experience with more than expected, all for the better. If once in a trip to Japan you'd like to breathe fresh air, ask Katsu.
I won't disclose Katsu-san every secret though, better experience it yourselves.

Myself and a friend did a two day tour with Kumano Experience and enjoyed every minute of it! Our holiday in Kansai was disrupted due to a typhoon so our time was limited. Katsumi, our friendly guide, made sure we saw all the sights and he even took us sea kayaking! He told us wonderful stories that really brought Japan to life, and went out of his way to help us. If you want to visit this beautiful area of Japan, make sure you contact Kumano Experience. Whether it is accommodation, historical tours or outdoor activities you are looking for, or even just friendly advice, they will help make your holiday more memorable and magical. I can't wait to go back!

Pristine location, beautiful riverine and mountainous landscapes with an engaging history. Katsu (guide) was extremely accommodating. A storm halted our planned river kayak. Instead We stayed in Katsu's awesome backpacking residence. He provided an extensive guided tour of Kumano Kodo, its shrines and history. We also staged a coastal kayak. It was one of the most rewarding and memorable stints of our Japanese travels.

We came to Japan to hike the Kumano Kodo and signed up to kayak with Katsu for one day to experience another side of the area. It was by far the best part of our trip to Japan. Katsu was an amazing guide. He picked us up from our hotel, drove us to the river and we got to visit a beautiful and tourist-free suspension bridge while he got the kayaks ready. We even saw snow monkeys! The river is beautiful, crystal blue/clear and Katsu cooked us a delicious lunch half-way down. We enjoyed a few hours of tranquil kayaking on the river and saw a variety of birds and were lucky enough to visit during the sakuras bloom along the riverside. This is an amazing experience that you should definitely do when visiting Kumano Kodo. Katsu is awesome and we would love to do it again!

We want to thank Katsu for being such a wonderful hiking and kayaking guide. My wife, daughter and I had a very fun, informative and well organised 3 days with Katsu. One the first day of our trip Katsu took us hiking and the 2 following days kayaking. Katsu took great care of us and knew our limits. We would highly recommend booking a trip with Katsu!

A 2 day kayak trip. This was an incredible way to travel a part of the ancient Kumano journey on the river.
With Katsu as our guide we were free to ask questions about many things both everyday and spiritual. We learned so much.
Katsu was an excellent support and confidence builder on the river.
To add to this there was great food, a peaceful night camped at the rivers edge, and an amazing full moon over the mountains.
Would do it again in a heartbeat.
