If you are traveling along the South Coast of the Kansai, you'll come across this important, and highly atmospheric shrine. We visited just as it had stopped raining and were practically the only ones there. Particularly impressive was the car blessing bay (see photo_

It’s a lot of climbing but so worth it. The buildings are beautiful! The view is spectacular. The blessings are bountiful. The koi are hungry and are worth feeding just to observe their behavior.

Don’t expect to find western tourists here. It’s a pilgrimage place where Japanese go to meditate and it is the right place to do so

We only visited the original site, which now just has the large torii and a couple of small shrines. But it was beautiful-the setting the sense of peace.

This is everything you expect about a Shrine. It is in the middel of the nature, it keeps the doors closed to keep monk’s privacy but you can hear the prays and “smell” asiatic religion force.
The place is very beautiful and not so many tourists as might be expected.

This shrine was said to be built 2000 years ago, and many emperors visited in old times because they were seeking for help. You can feel the solemn atmosphere.
But you should know that there are not enough restaurants for many visitors. You may have to wait a long time before serving a dishes because of poor prepared for lunch time.
