Best visited in Autumn for stunning foliage

A good visit at any time of year, I would especially recommend a visit to Gakuenji for anyone looking to enjoy autumn colours or kouyou.

This was my favourite temple experience outside Kyoto. It's a 10 minute walk uphill from the carpark past babbling brooks and enchanting forest, then another steep walk up stone steps to the main hall. To be honest, it is hard to reach the place. I went there by local sharing bus. You have to wait for one or two hours to get a bus depending on the time. Normally elderly people living in the mountains use the bus to go grocery shopping and doctor's appointments around the train station areas. Once you reach to... More
