宇佐神宮の表参道を進んで行くと突き当り近くは広場のような場所でした。ここから左手に行くと上宮へ、右手に行くと呉橋へと向かう場所ですが、その突き当りの少しだけ右側に、祓所あ゛ありました。
数段の石段を登ると、緑に囲まれた水盤のような池があって、その池に長方形の場所が浮かぶようにありました。ここは、神事の前にお祓いをする所なんだそうです。祓所の奥には小さな滝があり、滝から池へ水が流れています。神聖な空気が感じられる場所でした。

神橋を渡って宇佐神宮の境内に入ってきました。まもなく大鳥居をくぐって、広い表参道を進んで行きました。その表参道の突き当たりに、こちらの「祓所」がありました。
表参道の突き当りは少し広い広場のようになっていますが、この祓所は、３方を木々に囲まれています。小さ目の長方形の池があり、その中央にはさらに小さな長方形の真っ平らな場所があるんです。
ここは、神社の祭典の前に、お祓いを受ける所なんです。とても厳かな空間でした。

この近辺から今までの開けた平地からうっそうとした木々に覆われる
風景に変わり、上宮と下宮の道が交差する場所にあります。
石舞台の様子から神に捧げる儀式などを執り行うような
神聖なスポットであるということが素人目でも感じました。

参道を進んでいくと上宮に続く石段の手前に、小さな滝が流れ込む水路に囲まれた神秘的なスペースがあります。神職の方がここでお祓いをしてから社殿に参入するという神聖な場所です。

宇佐神宮の上宮への石段を登る手前、下宮の左手にある池とそこに向かって伸びる朱色の欄干がめぐらされた祓いの場となっていました。正面には小さいながらも瀧から水が音を立てて池に注いでいました。

大鳥居をくぐって上宮に向かって歩を進めると、やがてうっそうとした社叢に包まれてくる。いよいよ、神宮だ…という感じを抱き始めるころに見えてくるのが、祓所だ。小さな池に朱塗りの欄干に囲まれた広場が設けられている。勅使奉幣祭など祭典の「はらい」の儀を行う所だという。

半日以上かかる宇佐神宮なので夏場は水分補給等気を付けて参拝されると良いかと思います。木陰は多いのですが。
