Tosayamadacho Sakakawa, Kami 782-0005, Kochi Prefecture

Tosayamadacho Sakakawa, Kami 782-0005, Kochi Prefecture Really enjoyable for a short tour. You have to buy tickets for the entrance of the main cave. Entire cave is really amazing.

The caves allow you to come up close and personal with stalactites and stalagmites- such as the jellyfish, then bats fly overhead and you get feelings that you walk with the ancient people that once lived here. The Japanese have cleverly looked after everything and lit up all the features in differing hues perfectly. The air is clean and cold,... More

Inside this limestone cave are many rock formations that resemble things like Mother Mary and Japanese palaces. In a bid to woo more foreign visitors, they have created a free app that provides audio guide while in the cave, so visitors can hear an explanation of all the points of interest while walking through the cave. Pretty neat! A walk... More

I love caves. However, this cave has clearly had a lot of work done on it. There are several large chambers near or around interesting rock formations, and if you look closely, the rock wall is actually a coating over concrete. I found a patch where the plaster had fallen off, exposing concrete with little holes from tubes or tiny... More

I love caves but this one left me a bit underwhelmed. Perhaps it was the 'unnaturalishness' especially of the first half. Or maybe the lack of stalagmites and stalagtites. The second half had more and was more enjoyable.... That said, it is a very long cave and it is fun to squeeze through some very tight spots.

While the natural caves are very nice, they are not well-kept. Walkways and railings are necessary, but often interfere with or destroy the natural caves. Outside the caves, the market area has some charm, but also some dismal, depressing scenes - for example, a famous local chicken with a particularly long tail kept in a box. Just. A box. There's... The ryugadou area is marked by the usual tourist trappings in the lead up to the caves. The area is very picturesque and in the summer as you approach the entrance to the cave you will be greeted by a cool breeze. You can take two approaches to the cave. One for the average tourist which gives you a look... More
