About 7 minutes walk from Yamagata station. There is not a huge castle but a greenly park. I saw a lot of people who jog and walk. Unfortunately I didn't enter a museum cause I didn't have much time. It seemed to be interesting.

Kajo park features "Yamagata Castle" which isn't a castle but the remaining and restored outer walls, Yamagata Kyodokan, a baseball pitch and an abundance of Sakura trees and is surrounded by a mote. The cat colony was the highlight for our daughter- lots of well few strays here! We were a little too early for the cherry blossoms, looks like it would be beautiful. There's not a lot of Yamagata city, but this was a pleasant stroll after Yamadera and before dinner.

The castle ruins aren't much to see, but the park is a nice place to take a walk amid greenery and away from city streets. But don't miss the Saiseikan Museum. It was originally a hospital built in 1877 and it now houses medical supplies from various eras. But it's the building that's worth the visit as it was the... More
