This is action for people of all ages with the right attitude. You can get sweat, wet and even muddy. Along the way you learn to paddle a river kayak and get to know a mangrove in a safe setting. It is a nice, affordable and educational outing. The guide will give the basic hints in English, but the tour... More

To tell you the truth …I can't swim but my 10year old daughter really wanted to try canoeing so I gave in and am really happy I did. I got a little wet in the process but it was worth it. We could see the fish swimming nearby and found a giant shijimi/basket clam under a stump. The Mangrove Park... More

While staying on Amami-shi with extended family, we went to this little mangrove forest tucked away in the mountains of the island. What is really interesting about it, is that Amami-shi is a very small island and this little piece of it is well hidden, but extremely popular with tourists.

The mangrove forest is beautiful. However, it is very small, 15 min with the kayak to go and 15 min back. It was not worth the long driving from our accomodation.

If you are looking for a quick yet physically active outing, this is the one for you. This is the second largest mangrove forest in Japan. You get to kayak in a solo or two-person kayak. The tours occur in groups with one to two guides depending on the number of guests. The entire experience took no more than one... More

Due to short staying, we decided to choose this mangrove tour to end our try of Amami and ended up the worth try! It was great experience of learning from the expert(sorry forgot his name is,,,) who has been guiding this mangrove inhabitant for decades; the geographical fact of in-habitation of mangrove, types of mangroves, other habitats such as unique... We canoed Mangrove Lake as part of a day trip with a glass bottom boat tour - a real highlight for us, it was like being in the rainforest!

We hired one of the tours that cruise among the mangroves. Check the timetable at your hotel and be there ahead of time. Rowing is easy, and you can select kayak for single or couple (maybe also for 3 people). You go with a guide so it is safe and relaxing. Take a hat and water.
