Supposedly one of the older shrines. Beautiful shrine. It was a busy Saturday with kids decked out in their elegant Japanese wear and several weddings taking place. I also tried out the Yamanobe road/trail to the Sakurai train station.

This is the oldest shrine in Japan. The Miwa mountain itself is the object of warship and shows the ancient animism. Atmosphere there is very calm and remind us the being something great. 日本最古の神社です。山そのものが御神体で、アニミズムを表しています。静かな雰囲気は、何か荘厳なものを感じさせてくれます。

We started our long walk (Yamanobe-no-Michi trail) at the parking place near the Omiwa Shrine. It is a beautiful temple complex where we witnessed a ceremony for the (Japanese) visitors comprising monks chanting mantras. Impressive.

I was staying in a guest house located close to this shrine and I really wanted to see it, since the Yukio Mishima's novel "Runaway Horses" has an important passage here. I visited it early in the morning (7AM) of a rainy morning. It was...More
