Isahaya is an interesting place to visit. I have been there several times and can't wait to get back ... well, I guess I will have to wait!

My friend Chad Dupont who lives and works nearby has had a weekly VLOG, Discovering Nagasaki from a Local, on various topics and venues in Nagasaki Prefecture, and Episode 3 featuring a trip to Isahaya is well worth checking out.

Thanks!

It is a stone bridge in Isahaya Park. Like Meganebashi in Nagasaki, it is a form of double oval. However the bridge is not over a river, but over a pond in a garden.

This bridge is not an exact copy of the bridge near Megane-bashi tram station, but this is the quieter and more scenic version. Even on a weekend, you can take pictures of the bridge without people walking around. Get-off at Isahaya Station then walk for about 10 minutes. The google map route is a bit dangerous if you are with kids, because it's really at the edge of the roadway traffic! However, this is the easiest way to get to the bridge, otherwise you have to go inside the very large and complicated Isahaya Park. After the bridge if you still have the strength, you can go up at a flight of stairs at the left side, and you can visit a very old 600 year old tree with a vantage view of Isahaya. It is worth the climb, but please be careful, because the stairs are stone slabs and can be slippery on rainy days.

This is glasses bridge "of Isahaya", not of Nagasaki which is the famous one. The one of Isahaya is not so popular sightseeing spot but beautiful in spring because many floweres (called "Tsutsuzi") are grown in the park besides there!

眼鏡橋といえば長崎ですが、諫早にもそれはあります。諫早のほうが、小さいながらも公園に続いていて、つつじの季節なんかは長崎のそれより、写真的には映えるかもしれません。

Isahaya was known as a town with no bridge as many wood bridges were all distroyed by raging water of the river running in the town and a feudal lord
ordered to construct a stone bridge then it survived. When flowing woods by a bad flood were blocked by the bridge in 1957 and caused heavy damage around, it was advised to be demolished but people proposed that it should be moved to the present place in the park . 10-15 minutes walk from/to Isahaya station. there is a bus stop in front of the bridge but please check the time schedule as the frequency is not so often. There are two so called '' Eye Glasses Bridge'' in Nagasaki prefecture i.e, one in Nagasaki City and one here but I think the latter is more beautiful.

I think the fun is to search for the heart shape stone with your lover. It's quite exciting when you both spotted it together.

A beautiful stone arch bridge at the base of Isahaya Park. If you're in the area it is worth having a stroll around the bridge and through Isahaya Park. There's a 1000 year old camphor tree at the top along with a 300 year old Shinto shrine. The Japanese really know how to do a garden!

It was quite a far walk away from the streetcar station.

Frankly speaking, it's just a bridge which together with the reflection from the river shows two circles, thus the name spectacle bridge.

After visiting the spectacle bridge, you can walk 5 minutes to the nearby shopping area to do some shopping :)
