Awesome hilltop sight right above the train station There are buses that take you up to a parking lot for 260-yen or pay 500-yen for a roundtrip ticket, good for an all day bus ride in the area. From the parking lot there is a...More

I always love to find spots on my journeys which are not for everyone, and Takeda Castle Ruins was among them. On a good weather excellent views, and a bit of nice hiking. On a rainy day, also pretty good views from the castle. For...More

It took us about 30 minutes to climb up to the ruins. It was quite steep and challenging for me, had to stop a couple of times to catch my breath and when I got to the top I was sweating all over. The view...More

There's a free park off of 277, about 20 min drive from the base of the mountain that you can easily drive and take a great picture. I'd suggest bringing a 200-300mm zoom for a very unique picture but one that many people take from...More

Ive been to many corners in Japan but this might be my favorite- the surrounding area, the ruins and the trees around them, the few tourists around and the view- all beyond words. Highly recommended.

Known today as "Japan's Machu Picchu" Takeda-jō was a hill top castle in Hyōgo Prefecture. Hill-top castles are easy to defend, but very difficult to supply, and somewhat out of the way strategically speaking. Climb to the top of Takeda, and try to imagine having...More

It's a steep little climb from the train station but well worth the effort. The view on a clear day is lovely.

Does anybody know how to get to Takeda Castle from Kyoto but in the early morning? The misty clouds are supposedly only seen in the early morning so I would like to leave Kyoto around 3AM to 4AM to make it to the summit by 7AM at the latest. The trains dont start running until 7 or 8 so Im hoping to take a tour bus of some sort to get there that early. I'd appreciate any info!
