For the Veiws, it's well worth it!
The christ statue is well worth a visit, veiws looking back over to Lisbon and the bridge are wonderful on a sunny day and it's a fun day out, getting the boat across the river is cheap and more fun then a taxi, then get a uba up the hill to the statue, cheaper then a taxi. A bit windy ontop of statue but great 360 degree veiws, very nice staff and a nice little gift shop inside statue. Useful cafe with water and loos at the base.

    Went for the views
This is an easy visit by public transport especially if you want to go away from Lisbon. Although the statue can be observed from Lisbon, we took a trip to Cacilhas not only for a closer view of the statue but to view the city from the other side of the suspension bridge and the Tagus River. We walked to Cais do Sodré from our hotel, took a ferry ride (less than 10 min - return ticket for Euro2) then took the bus 3001 (euro1.25). Cristo Rei, a huge cross, a souvenir shop, a cafeteria with washrooms, a park and beautiful views of the suspension bridge and Lisbon city awaits you. You can go up closer to the statue for Euro6 but there was a queue and we weren’t too keen. We took the bus back as the road to walk down doesn’t look too pleasant to walk as some parts of it is in construction.

    Take cash!
We came here in early March, its super easy to get to, we jumped on the number 753 bus just up the hill from Marquês de Pombal metro station. If you have a day pass for your metro ticket the bus is included. Get off the bus at the stop just after the bridge and then walk up to Cristo Rei (it's about a 10/15 min walk from the bus stop) The views are stunning from the viewing platform and the architecture of Cristo Rei is impressive! Top tip: bring cash with you to pay for entry into Cristo Rei, they didn't have a card machine and no ATM so no cash, no entry. It's €6 per person.

Selfie Stick is Very Useful Here
I spent half day for this visit from Lisbon including taking a ferry, enjoyed a lunch one the island then took the public bus next to the pier (15 mins ride up). The area is very beautiful tranquil and cozy, with excellent views over the city opposite to the water. Selfie stick is very important and helpful here (even if you are not solo visitor as me). The Jesus Christ statue is tall with open arms. The selfie stick helps me to take pics from ground angle and cover all the statue. Don't forget to take the elevator up to the feet of the statue where the views are even more fantastic.

Worth a visit for the view alone
We weren’t expecting to come here at all, but when we got off the ferry at Cacihas there was a lady offering tuk tuk rides, so we decided to go! The statue itself is huge and free to walk around outside; the area is well maintained and there are stations of the cross and some other statues to see as well as an avenue of palm trees. What we weren’t aware of at all was the superb viewpoint across to Lisbon!

Amazing Views - Don’t go at closing!
This was a fantastic stop on our recent Portugal trip! Make sure you get in line by 5:20 if you want to go up. There is a sign that says last trip up at 5:40 but the man was cutting the line off at 5:30. We had to beg for a trip up. The views are incredible!

    Must visit place
Visit of this place was one of the highlights during our stay in Lisbon, it's definitely MUST visit. Before we travel anywhere we usually research and learn about places we would like to see. So we learned the history why it was built and being there and standing in front of the statue you can feel like being in Brazil as it is very similar to Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. This religious monument is over 100 metre tall and the height of the statue of the Christ is 28 metres. Because it's so popular we expected it will be overcrowded but probably we chose a good time for travel - April. There were plenty people but definitely it was not overcrowded as the area is huge, tranquil with lots of olive trees and palms. You can take bus from the bus station near the ferry terminal, the ticket costs Eur 1.25 and it will bring you directly to the Sanctuary. Going towards the monument you will hear music from the flower towers and see kids running through fountain. You can go to the top of the Christ statue with the elevator but you need also to manage about 75 stairs - which I was unable because of my bad knee. At the feet of the Christ is viewing platform - we spoke later with a couple who was there and they said the better view is from the platform view in front of the monument. And you really have great view on Lisbon from there. In the area is also cafe and Sanctuary Welcome House where are meeting rooms, chapel, exhibitions and is used for various functions.

    Splendorous visit
Easy access to monument. Greatest view of Lisbon all around. Nice quiet places for meditation and prayer. Beautiful chapel. Didn't go up because for me 72 steps after elevator was too much. Loved it and would return next time for Eucharist celebration.

    The Best View in Lisbon
From the city centre of Lisbon, I took the metro, boat and then walked up to the statue. It was an enjoyable morning journey up to find that you can go to the top of the statue! The view was stunning and could see what felt like the entire city of Lisbon! Incredible views and a nice little cafe at the bottom. NOTE: You have to pay in cash to get in the elevator so please carry some before you go!

    A must do!
Wow is all I have to say. The thing is huge and the view from the top is amazing. It costs 8 Euros to go up and is well worth it. I think out of all the viewpoints we saw in Lisbon, this is the best. This isn't in Lisbon but you get a great view. After this we walked the town and took the boat back to Lisbon. This is a must

We walked along the sea front and towards the end of all of the derelict buildings. There is a free lift at the end which then points you through the town to the Cristo Rei… only do this route if you are fairly fit. There is a bus from the bus station but we wanted to walk. Uphill for about 45 mins from the lift and when you first see the statue it’s breathtaking. Although we didn’t get to go to the top as there is a mechanical failure at the moment, the moment itself is beautiful. Nice surrounding garden and also a fabulous view towards Lisbon and the bridge. We lit a candle in the little church inside the statue.

The statue was very impressive to see, and evidently significant for many people. It was peaceful to sit in the grounds and enjoy the great views of the bridge, water and buildings. However, it was very disappointing that visitors were unable to access the pedestal via elevator on the day of our visit towards the end of October due to ‘technical issues’. Staff were not apologetic about this and there was no information on the website to communicate the closure to visitors, otherwise we could have potentially gone on a different day instead. No indication about how long it might take to resolve the ‘technical issues’ so we spent nearly two hours waiting, to no avail sadly. Pleased we visited, but let down by not being able to partake in the whole experience.

A bit of a challenge to get to from the city centre, but absolutely worth it for the views both at ground level and at the top. Fairly priced, with decent guidance at the top too.

We were really looking forward to this on our trip. However when we arrived they announced they only accepted cash with no available ATM machine or ability to book tickets online.
Despite this the views from the ground are impressive however it was a huge let down. It appeared many people were in the same situation as us, unable to take the elevator to the top.

Visiting the Santuario Nacional de Cristo Rei was an amazing experience! This towering monument to Christ the King, with a huge statue of Jesus Christ standing tall at 28 metres, offers a unique view of Lisbon. From the top, you can appreciate the city's beauty in its full glory.

Getting there is an adventure, but whether you choose to go by boat or a combination of buses and metro from downtown Lisbon, the journey is well worth it. Once you arrive, you'll find a variety of amenities at the base of the tower, including a restaurant, gift shops, a cafe, and free toilets.Entry is reasonably priced at €8 for adults, €3 for children, with infants entering for free. Once inside, an elevator takes you most of the way up, ending with a staircase to the very top. But trust me, the breathtaking view of the city from the top makes every step worthwhile!

Overall, visiting the Santuario Nacional de Cristo Rei was an unforgettable experience that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Lisbon.

This is an impressive site and monument. The views are breathtaking. Be prepared for a long wait - we arrived at 11.50 and queued for nearly two hours to get the lift up. Also worth noting there are a few flights of narrow stairs when you leave the lift.

I found it quite spiritual, but we were there at opening time so very few people about.
Singing in the background, what looked like a church in a marquee.
Great view over the river to the city.
Check opening times.
It was tricky for us to find it, but we did.
Parking is free, as are the toilets and on site, not on the road outside.

Fantastic place to visit! Easy to get to by bus from the ferry terminal - bus only takes cash though. Site has cafe, toilets and car parking. The views over Lisbon, the bridge, surrounding area are amazing - only to be enhanced once you reach the viewing platform via the lift and some stares. Point to note - when I visited at the end of June only cash was accepted for the admission fee and there was no cashpoint there. The nearest was a 20 minuet walk away. There seemed to be a little but of development going on, so this may change.
All in all a great afternoon out.
