We spent a lovely afternoon at Miyajima (Itsukushima Island). Although it was a cold winter day, it was still breathtakingly beautiful and much less crowded than it would be in peak tourist season. The island is easily accessible by taking the JR Sanyo line to Miyajimaguchi and then taking the JR ferry (both free if you have a JR pass).... More

Ok i admit- Miyajima is a tourist trap. It was a good tourist trap though. Firstly, the deers were a surprise. There were a lot of them that I wondered why they didnt name the island 鹿島 instead. Bad news- the deers are/ were underfed and malnourised at the time of visit. Some followed me around, trying to chew at... More

Well worth the trip out from Hiroshima. Plenty to see and a very interesting history. The Buddhist Temple up on the hill was very good as well as the Shinto Shrines. The Gate provides some great photos. Try to time your visit with the tide being up.

Miyajima island is very beautiful. If you were in Hiroshima , please spare sometimes to visit. Beside shopping for a local food and product, you will be able to visit the most famous giant Torii Gate and the nearby Itsukushima Jinta shrine.

Yes, if time is an essence for you, it IS possible to experience the wonderful and historical Miyajima island within 3.5 hours and still experience the highlights of what one of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed sites has to offer. It is a 30min JR rail train ride from Hiroshima station followed by a 10min JR ferry ride to the island... More

This island has many sites and things worth doing and seeing. The shrines, walks, ropeway, summit are all outstanding. Set aside a full day. Not good for handicapped as there is a lot of climbing. Do not miss the summit. Recommended.

My daughter and I absolutely loved our time on Miyajima. The shrine and gate were beautiful, and it was so much fun to visit the shops on the island. I spent some time exploring on my own and enjoyed walking through the woods. Would love to come back!

You reach the island by ferry easily..Then take a walk to the Itsukushima Shrine. Its a wonderful promenade where you can make fabulous fotos of the great tori. Instead of waiting in a queue to get into the Daiganji Temple...take the steps up to the daishon Temple. There you will be received with an outstanding view over the island. Generally... More

Miyajima is an island close to Hiroshima. You can plan a day trip there or just a half day from Hiroshima. If you planned to visit all attractions then day trip would be better or simply spend a night there. There are many attractions: Itsukushima Shrine, Floating Torii Gate, Shopping alley, Aquarium, Hiking, Camping, Pagoda, Museum, etc. Since I only... More

Definitely include a trip to Miyajima if you are visiting Hiroshima. It is an easy boat trip, with views of the "floating tori" of Itsukushima shrine. Then you can take the rest of the day to walk the streets and take the cable car up to the top of Mt Mizen. I recommend, take the cable car up, hike the... More
