An interesting museum; free. Quite a lot about minesweeping; a bit about torpedoes and a bit about submarines. The tour of the submarine (as per the photo) is brief and limited but still worthwhile for getting a feel of life in a submarine.

One of two museum dedicated to the maritime history of Kure. It's inexpensive since one is free and the other cheap. They're both very informative with a great span including both specific and general things in regards to Kures history and the naval tradition of...More

This museum is free so, if you spend some time in Kure, you definitely want to go there. It's at a ten minutes walk from the station, and extremely well indicated. It also complements well a visit of the neighboring Yamato museum. The main focus...More

Included in your pass to the Yamato Museum as an add on, definitely worth taking the time to visit. You can experience what it feels like to live and walk in a submarine. Able to view the cockpit, sleeping quarters, dining area etc

The museum is an ideal next stop after visiting the adjacent Yamato Museum. There is no entrance fee and it appears tailored more to a Japanese audience. One must understand that Kure is the Center of Japanese maritime military activities so the museum functions as...More

Walk through three levels of the museum telling you about minesweeping operations, then walk through a decommissioned military submarine.

My wife and I visited this free Museum on January 12, 2018. The experience of getting inside a decommissioned submarine to try its periscope to look into the Hiroshima Bay was unforgettable. The sonar sounds suggested that many frightful things can happen under the sea!
