There are quite a few little villages in the Gokayama area, but this being one of the smaller and being complete makes it special. I was able to walk around it in less than an hour regardless of the snow on the ground. I may...More

The houses are small, village is small, but unique architecture. Two small museums costs 300JPY to enter both of them. People here are really friendly, and proud of the village. Scenery in snow is very beautiful.

Awesome place. It is a small village that is self sufficient, showcasing picturesque houses with foliage and hills providing the backdrop. "Take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the treasures of the town" is one good advice by the travel tour. Don't rush, go at a...More

This is one of the smallest village and not much to see. But at the same time its less touristy and very traditional Japanese life style. Its very quiet and serene. You can take the bus from Shirakawago to Suganuma, its about 30 minutes and...More

This little village is set in a little valley, there is parking above the village and in the village itself, down a steep driveway. For those parking above the village there is an elevator in the carpark, if you don't wish to walk down. The...More

This village is between the world famous Shirakawago and well known Ainokura. If you do visit Shirakawago and Ainokura by car I do recommend a visit to this small but very nice village. There is about ten very well maintained Gassoho houses in the village....More

We went to lunch in a house at Suganuma village in Gokayama as part of a tour. We took an elevator from the parking area and walked through a tunnel to reach the village. Without such facilities, the houses must have been quite remote. The...More

This is one of the 3 main gasho-style villages in the area. It's 9 houses (vs more than a 100 in Shirakawa-go), so it's much less busy with crowds and feels very traditional. Well worth the extra miles to get there! Breathtaking views of the...More

There are two little villages that are separated by a bridge. There are 3 museums that can be visited on the villages. While interesting to see, there is no information on any western language.
