Located between the Nakayama mountains of the Kamogawa River and almost in the middle of the Boso Peninsula, it is known as the closest rice terrace from Tokyo. On a steep slope of 32,000 sq m, 375 trees line the steps of Oyama Senmaida. In addition, this place operates a terraced rice Owner system to preserve this landscape. You have the chance to farm here every year. Since it is after the harvest of rice, the traditional "hasakake" (rice racking) is performed. This is unusual.
The bunched rice is hung on a stick and allowed to dry in the sun (sun rays) and natural wind for about two weeks. This natural drying process is called "rice stacking". Plus, here's what we have. It's a stone monument. According to the explanation, it is inscribed with the "gyosei" (manufacturing) composed by Her Majesty the Emperor and Empress during her visit in 2010.

I went there by car because it was the closest rice terrace to Tokyo. Along the way, there were gutter-like fields on both sides, which was scary. But when I saw the rice terraces, I got excited. The first rice terrace. It was very beautiful.

The scene I spotted on the way to the House of Mikio Mizuta.
It's special kind of breathtaking view in Japan.

Oyama Senamaida is a famous rice terrace chosen as one of the best 100 rice terrace in Japan. The view is spectacular and it is becoming a popular sightseeing spot. There are 375 rice fields in 4 hectare of land. It is the one and only rice terrace in Japan that uses "rain only". Good photo spot.

I’ve been there several times, always at dawn. It’s sublime... that said, I’m not sure how one would get without a car or motorcycle. It’s located in the middle section on the lower part of Boso Peninsula.

Good to see this as we were in the area. I’d suggest planning when you go (when we went the paddy fields were empty so not at their best). We went at sunset and it was good to enjoy the view for 30 minutes or so. It’s in a tricky spot to find, we had a car. I think public transport would be tricky as it’s quite out of the way. But it’s a good thing to add to your list if you’re in that area.

Is It nice to visit the terraces in mid october? Once we get to the train station from Tokyo can we walk to the terraces? Is It far? Can we visit them freely simply walking?
