Kiriko museum houses "kiriko lanterns"...the huge paper lanterns used in summer festivals in different parts of Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa. This museum was relocated to a new site closer to Wajima' morning market, and has a very different look from the previous place which was a bit old, and a cramped display style. The new museum has a better lighting, and... The Kiriko Lantern Museum has relocated to Wajima's growing Marine Town development. The new building has been superbly designed to showcase the beautiful lantern floats. I clearly remember my reaction when I walked into the exhibition hall - wow! It is one of the best festival float museums I have visited. I highly recommend the Kiriko Lantern Museum which is... This is a tiny museum, but packed with interesting displays if you're interested in the Matsuri culture of Japan. The Kiriko are just massive. I'd like to return for one of the summer festivals and see them in action.

Amazing collection of Kiriko Lanterns. These huge and very heavy float/lanterns/signs are carried around the towns during their festivals. I can't remember the exact figures but they are something like 30 feet tall and thousands of pounds!

Magical and spectacular museum. Unlike anything I've seen before. The fabulous lanterns and floats of the local festival are beautifully displayed. Don't miss it!!

Kiriko Lantern Museum is rich with history with their massive displays of kiriko lanterns. The laterns are used/have been used in festivals. They are made of wood, fabric, and paper and are carried by dozens and dozens of people. The height of the laterns range from a few feet to roughly fifty feet tall. Some are very plain while others... More
