The museum was closed for upgrading when we visited in 2022. This time we made it! This is definitely the highlight of the trip for my 5yo. The museum is expansive and well-maintained. The range of dino exhibits is impressive. Per Japanese standards, I wouldn't expect anything less in terms of how well-labelled and thought-out each exhibit piece is. Technology-wise, not so much. I was thinking that perhaps after the upgrading, the museum may adopt AV technology like immersive tech or AR/VR to showcase some of its exhibits, but not really. Nonetheless, they do the good 'ol museum stuff really well.

If you like dinosaurs, you should go this museum while staying near Kyoto or Kanazawa, as this is one of the largest 3 dinosaur museums in the world. The official website has shown you how to go there. But I will advise you to go there on weekdays as there should be crowded. Also on-line reservation is recommended but it is difficult for foreigner visitors to do on-line.

The museum has just renovated and reopened since mid-July 2023, so the fossils and exhibits are fantastic and exciting. Though the travel time from Kyoto or Kanazawa is little bit long, around 2-3 hours, it is worthwhile if you like Jurassic Park.

Still the same excellent dinosaur museum. They seem to change some exhibits slightly every now and then, as I always notice something new whenever I visit again.

You need to book online to visit, either in the morning or afternoon.
It can be still be crowded inside, depending on the time slot and day.
Masks are required to enter the museum, and there is disinfectant located at various places.

There is currently a special exhibit about dinosaur footprints, which was interesting.
I suggest checking their website to find out what special exhibits they might have at the time when you visit.

Still the same excellent Dinosaur Museum.
There is currently a special exhibit about Fukui's dinosaurs, at no extra charge.

You now need to book entry online before going to the museum. Entry times are divided between the morning and afternoon, and the number of visitors limited.
Masks must be worn when inside. If you don't have a mask, they will give you a disposable mask for a small donation.
Inside, there is no problem finding antibacterial spray, as it has been placed all around the museum.
There are signs to keep social distancing, and most hands-on exhibits are either off limits or have a notice stuck on them to say not to touch. The exception I saw was buttons to light up some stones/crystals. The children's educational area is closed.

We absolutely loved the day at the museum. There's a great anime film that's shown without subtitles in English but we still were able to watch and enjoy it- we combined this with the nearby echizen daibutsu and temple. what a perfect day. don't miss this great museum and cute town.

Revisited after about 6 months since the last time. Have been here many times but always seem to find something I’ve missed before or something new added, and enjoy seeing the same exhibits again. Also, the special exhibition changes every few months.
Well worth revisiting if you haven’t been for a while.

The collection of dinosaur fossil here is amazing! They have all the dinosaur I could name and more! Fossils come from different parts of the world. Each exhibit has the skeleton and a mini display of the dinosaurs...very cute. The interactive displays were interesting too.
A pity we could only spend a couple of hours here. Did not explore the rooftop garden and playground. Great treasures at Fukui. Must visit!

The long 2 hr journey from kanazawa whereby we changed 2 trains and took a bus to the museum is really worth it. The museum exhibits were amazing with real life dinosaur models that really excite the kids. We had fun with the dino lab where the kids can play around with the exhibits. We managed to watch 1 animation which lasted around 20mins and the kids enjoyed that too. There is also a great outdoor playground with long slide and dinosaur theme too where the kids can run about. Best part was that the combination ticket for train, bus and entry for kids below primary school is free while adult costs 2130 yen. Worth a visit !

3rd largest Dino museum and park in the world. While we were there most of the grounds were closed because of bear activity. The museum really only has two (out of four) floors worth seeing, especially if you have children. THose two floors are great though: lots of skeleton/fossils and animatronic dinos. The cafe was actually good but very busy.

Really amazing museum with lots to see and do. Unforunately there's not a lot of English available, but it was still enjoyable without it. Furthermore the surrounding town is absolutely beautiful, with snow-capped mountains surrounding the area.
