La ville d'Obama tente de conserver sa culture culinaire à base de maquereaux par cet élevage. En effet, la ville a été longtemps la porte d'entrée de de Kyôto sur la mer, ainsi un chemin à travers les montagnes séparant Obama et la capitale pour y apporter du poisson frais nommé.Sabakaidô (la route des maquereaux). C'est l'occasion de rencontrer les pêcheurs et d'en apprendre plus sur l'élevage de ces poissons. Ils peuvent vous emmener en mer sur leurs bateaux nourrir les maquereaux. La particularité des maquereaux d'Obama est qu'ils sont " ivres", car nourries à la lie du saké (résultant de la fermentation produisant du saké ).
