We rented a car and drove 2600 miles in Japan. It was an incredible three week trip. We were really sorry we did not start our trip by going to this museum outside of Tokyo. We had a flight home from Narita Airport in the afternoon and decided to visit this museum in the morning just to kill some time.... More

It is surprising to find such a good museum in an area that does not seem central. This museum covered all aspects of Japanese history, from the dawn of civilisation to the post war era. We even found Godzilla! Japanese museums do wonderful dioramas and this one was not exception. There were enough hands on items to keep kids engaged... More

I went to this museum as I had a couple of hours to kill. So I didn't get the audio guide but I still just walked around and enjoy the displays. I will definitely be going back. The only problem is that it is so far from Tokyo.

We spent a couple of hours there and could have easily spent twice as long . This is a very big building and traces Japanese history basically from the first inhabitants up to modern times. It covers all aspects of Japenese culture and lifestyle. The displays are terrific and there are a couple of big town models that give you... More

We live in Tokyo so decided to visit the museum on the weekend. Overall it was very easy to find and there was plenty of parking. Entry was very reasonable and as suggested by other guests, headphones in other languages are available for free at the front desk. We took a set of headphones each and started the tour. For... I visited this museum this morning and I was very impressed, I would advise getting the audio guide (they are free) as almost all the descriptions are in Japanese, we were in there for almost 4 hours!, reasonable prices too, I would definitely return.

For those who are interested in Japanese history, folklore and custom from the ancient Jomon age through modernized Japan after Meiji Restration, this is a must-see museum. Permanent exhibition consists of 6 galleries and Special exhibition is occassionally added. Two hours minimum and you can easily spend half/ whole day there if you look closely. The facility is located at... More

We visited this museum on a long layover at Narita Airport. It is a short walk from the Kinsei Station, and about 25 minutes from the airport by train. We really enjoyed it and wished for more time to enjoy the deep and well presented history and culture galleries.

This place gives an excellent overview of Japanese history including primitive; to cover properly is 'brain drain'

A fabulous experience seeing the edo town displays, fantastic costumes and so much more. The staff fantastic and exceptionally helpful. Recommend using own language audio, as everything in Japanese. Only issue we had was trying to get a taxi back to the station no one seemed to understand what we wanted to do ( even laugh to this day that... More
