Many antiques and plenty of information on the history of the village. The museum is close to a thangka shop and just 60 meters from the main temple.

While returning from Changu Narayan Temple , I visited change Museum to know the history of Changu and that of Changu Narayan Temple . I was not disappointed . The legend of Changu Narayan was beautifully illustrated .

Long long ago , Sudarshan a Brahmin sold his cow giving ample milk to a cow herder ( gwala ) . The gwala used to take the cow to a forest of Champak trees , Changu for grazing . While grazing , the cow used to take shelter under the shade of a particular tree . In the evening , when the gwala took the cow home and started milking her , he got only a very small amount of milk . This continued several days . He narrated the story to Sudarshan . Intrigued Sudarshan asked the gwala to take him to Changu next day . Sudarshan and the gwala hid behind the particular tree . To their surprise , a dark kid came out of the tree and started drinking the cow milk . Both the men thought the boy must be the devil and tree must be its home . So Sudarshan cut down the champak tree . While the tree was being cut , fresh human blood started oozing out of the tree . Both of them panicked , believing they had committed a great crime and began to cry . Lord Vishnu emerged from the tree and told Sudarshan and the gwala not to repent .Vishnu told them that he had committed a heinous crime by unwittingly killing Sudarshan’s father while hunting in the forest . After that , cursed by Sudarshan’s father he wandered the earth and eventually descended on the hill at Changu . There he survived on milk stolen from the cow . When Sudarshan cut down the tree , Vishnu was beheaded . As the revenge of Sudarshan’s father completed ,Lord Vishnu was freed from his sin . After hearing these words from Vishnu , Sudarshan and the gwala constructed a small temple and installed an idol of Lord Vishnu .

Shri Binaya Raj Shrestha , the owner and curator of the museum told me that this was the first private museum of Nepal . The museum exhibited ancient coins ; artistic , cultural and historical rare objects . The museum had a good collection of ancient tools used by Newar family during the medieval period .

The museum was established in 2000 AD .

Entrance fee : NRs 50 for Nepalese
