The Town is typical tourist area with hotels on the waterfront. When you leaving the waterfront you will be in a nice landscape and lovely flowers

I was inspired by pictures of the beach on some travel guide and we decided to visit Shirahama Beach just before a storm hit the region.

The sea was rather rough than calm with strong winds.

There were some rubbish spreading. Not sure if it was because of the storm or human activities but I wish to see the beach like shown on the travel guide.

Maybe it was a wrong time of the year but kids still loved playing with white sands.

Arrived after the typhoon had hit and the main beach had been cleared but the beach in the left had not been cleaned BUT it did not soil our days at the beach.
Very lovely beach with great areas to sit watching the waves roll in.

This is the best spot if you're looking for a good time. Unlike the uptight people in the Kanagawa area, the attitudes of the people in general are more relaxed on this beach. You can play loud music, have tattoos, drink alcohol, etc and nobody messes with you. The waves are good, the eye candy outstanding and you'll have fun.

We visited this beach off season in April, when it was around 21 degrees and too cold to swim in. Nevertheless, we had a nice walk along the beach and enjoyed a picnic there, watching the surfers and enjoying the quiet. The water is very clear and the scenery beautiful. There is also an impressive temple nearby (on the side of the torii gate) that you can visit. I didn't think that the beach was dirty - yes, there were a few bits of plastic waste in the sand, but it didn't strike me as 'a lot' of trash. Even if the beach is cleaned every day, sadly, some trash will be carried to the beach from the ocean every day due to our over-consumption and use of plastic... It's also very convenient that you can quickly reach the beach by bus from Izukyu-Shimoda station or Shimoda marina. Just opposite, there is a Family Mart and a few cafes and restaurants.

We went in mid April when the weather was still quite cool and so the beach was not really suitable for swimming and was quite empty with only a few people around. However, there were some people surfing the waves. As it was evidently low season, the beach was filled with clumps of seaweed everywhere (which was fine since it's a natural occurence) but I was quite shocked at the amount of litter carelessly thrown all over the place. Bits of plastic all over the beach, can opener tabs, broken glass, used straws, etc. I guess no one cleans the beach during this time? Quite sad to see the beach so dirty, I had read such good reviews about the beach and had come expecting a beautiful scene. Nonetheless, the surf was good and the sand was fine and white if you could ignore the trash. It would have been so beautiful if it only wasn't so dirty. Carpark is across the road and there is a 7-11 across the road, so it's convenient to buy food and snacks before picnicking on the beach. We wore aqua shoes to protect our feet from any potential cuts from the debris.

If you like beach and you also enjoy onsen. Come to this place. It is a small beach town which is deserted during winter. But it is really charming to enjoy. Had some fresh seafood here and the soft white sand beach is really quite wonderful.

Perfect for relaxation and solitude!

Not like a beach in Kamakura, you can find a very soft white sand beach here with lots of surfers, clean water, 7-11 and parking just located across the street, it's a nice beach to enjoy a sunny day.
