A few minutes walk from the Coalport China Museum. Originally intended to join the River Severn at Coalport to other sites, the intent changed when bitumen was found. Unfortunately we could not enter the tunnel on the day of our visit as it had been...More

All but a few yards of the tunnel are off-limits owing to health and safety concerns. Dangerous gases present include carbon monoxide, so an understandable position. The tunnel, intended as a canal bore, produced bitumen as if by magic. Worth a peek if you're visiting...More

So disappointing, says shut due to gas. In fact it's been closed for 2 years. Don't bother. Plus it's on the season ticket so paying for nothing there.

I was looking forward to the tar tunnel but unfortunately due to high gas levels we could not go inside them. Apparently this has been a ongoing issue for 2 years. We got to look down the tunnels but thats it.
