Religious Shiva Temple on hill
Apr 2019
This temple is situated on a hill , around 13 kms from Alibaug , it has around 700 steps to climb son not suitable for senior citizens who have Knee problems or climbing problems. It can be a very good group trek best period to visit November to January that is in winter .You have to have a car to reach base , there is free open parking . On reaching top there are 2 small restaurants from local where you can get tea ,coffee, lunch etc but it is better to carry water bottles and dry snacks as restaurants are small and lunch has to be ordered first before visiting temple

There lives Mahadev on top of the Mountain
May 2018 • Family
Take a catamaran, from Gateway of India then head straight to Mandwa jetty. You will get autos/cars/ vikrams to go to Kanakeshwar temple. On the way, you can eat snacks. Then you need to climb long stairs of the volcanic mountain. Never mind, you wont feel tired because you will get fresh air full of oxygen. Mahadev will be found on the top of the mountain, amidst Prakriti-his ardhangini!

Oldest Temple
Nov 2018 • Friends
I went to Kanakeshwar Devasthan Temple. Popular as Shiva temple, at a distance of about 13 km from Alibaug is the Kanakeshwar Devasthan Temple, located on a hill at an altitude of 900 feet. Climb some 5000 odd steps to reach this this temple. It is great place to go.

Quite and Peaceful temple, though climbing up is tiresome
Nov 2018 • Family
I went with my wife and my two sons of 8 years old each. I am not a fitness freak and we climbed the 610 steps in 1.5 hours with break at every 25 steps. We started at 9:30 AM and the sanctum does not close by noon. The steep walk till 300 steps is more arduous than the remaining steps. All steps are nicely made for walking; after 300 steps, there are more shadows due to trees; Besides the Shiva sanctum, there is a Samadhi of a saint here. Good to have a cap while climbing; also there is no shop at the foothill, so better buy at least one or 2 bottles of water before climbing.

Feel The Presence of Lord Shiva
Apr 2018 • Family
If you are willing to see the abode of Mahadev but cannot manage to see Kailash yet, then go to Kankeshwar Temple in Alibaug. You feel his presence. The temple is situated on the top of the hill, there are many long stairs to climb. However, god himself will help you to move ahead.

You just feel at peace with the clean air and atmosphere. There is no glamour to this temple, just how Mahadev prefers. It is in love with Prakriti- another name of mata Parvati, or mother nature. There are footprints on the igneous stairs. The locals say they belong to Lord Shiva.

I'm not sure if it is actually the case, but one thing is assured he surely is there. Therefore, if you are visiting Alibaug, put this temple on the must-see list.
