Overview

Farewell Spit Eco Tours began in 1946 as the mail delivery to the lighthouse keepers on Farewell spit. Farewell Spit is a nature reserve and bird sanctuary. Summer home to wading birds from the Arctic and also a growing Gannet colony near the end. Our hand picked local guides love to share their knowledge with people from all over the world, many of whom return on subsequent visits to our country.

Had a cracking day on the Farewell Split tour! Toby was at the helm and it was a real day to remember: beautiful scenery, searching for fossils, watching seals frolick, an abundance of birds, tea at the lighthouse then running down the sand dunes. One...More

This is the only company that can take you to the far end of farewell spit. The public is only allowed 4km along the spit when Farewell Spit is 30km plus long. Going there is a privileged experience to see such a unique landscape that...More

Amazing trip out to a very special place. Would recommend it to everyone traveling Golden Bay. The lighthouse is a little oasis. Our driver and guide was terrific, very patient when he had to put up with many many comments from an overseas tourist. Lovely...More

An excellent tour with a good, informative & enthusiastic guide. We saw some more seals driving along the Spit in a modified vehicle in the nature reserve & bird sanctuary & stopped at the lighthouse for coffee & muffins. A great trip

The standard price at Jan 2018 is 155 of our New Zealand dollars. Quite pricey but it’s a 6.5 hour trip to a place no one goes, so a must-do if you’ve come thus far.
