We visited this during a half day trip to Ciudade velha. This is an important church visited by columbus and Vasco da Gama. Luckily someone came to open the door for us. Interesting gravestones inside. Well worth a visit.

Stroll to the end of Banana Street and come upon a gorgeous flowering tree shading the entrance of this church from antiquity. This church is still packed on Sundays and is a must see when visiting the old city and Cape Verde in general.
There was a service in progress and we were only able to have a quick look inside. It is remarkable that this church is still functioning over 500 years after it was built. It had a typically simple and light décor on the interior.
