An incredible architectural landmark that sits in the middle of another incredible natural landmark. These are the remains of only the main chapel of the fortress. the fortress wall itself is noticeable here and there on the hills as the fortress was quite large. But...More

Very impressive refurbished fortress with marvellous panoramic view. Parkling area too small during weekends and high season

We were lucky enough to have this all to ourselves. Although the steps are uneven and steep (we are an older couple) it was definitely worth it. The views are stunning when you stand on top of the old ruin. The church is beautiful although...More

It is not a particularly impressive fortress but the view of the city is exquisite! The walk there is charming. You can find some local stores with handmade products.

We stopped by on our way to the Bachkovo monastery. An easy and short walk to the fortress from the carpark. Once you are up you will be treated to a splendid view. Do climb up all the way to where the flagpole is.

Amazing place. So much history here. The view is absolutely stunning. From the top you could see the Rodopi montains, the river and the town. It is absolutely beautiful. If I had "must see" list the Asen's fortress definitely would take one of the first...More

this fortress is interesting due to the history not only of Bulgaria but actually the history in defending Christianity against the Islam already back in the 10th century. The fortress is only a ruin, what you see is the church as part of the fortress....More
