We drove there and was directed to park down hill a distance away from the site. However we told the security personnel that we had an elderly lady of 80 years old in the our family and was allowed to drive mid hill at the...More
This is THE photo. Once you've seen this everything else pales in comparison. You should go there. I went there. It was awesome. It was only a couple of days ago and I still haven't seen anything better. Maybe I never will. If you see...More
Chureito Pagoda is one of those sights where everything has just come together into one perfect scene. It is only very popular with tourists and thus if you choose your timing right, you can have it mostly to yourself. Be advised that tripods are banned...More
I had just one specific day to visit and the whole week was raining. I still don’t bet how lucky I was to have such a gorgeous day!!!! Could see Fuji San since the road, from the bus window.
That is a place you MUST...More

Small space with many photographers trying to get the right shot . I felt like asking for their photo instead, it killed my motivation to make photos a little. But a large camera doesn’t mean good photos hehehe.
Husband and I visited today, 8th of March.
Got off at Shimoyoshida Station ~0815am from Fujikyu Highland Station. Weather was sunny but cold. Took us about 15 min to walk the start of of the park.

A half mile meandering walk from the Shimoyoshida train station on the Fujikyu-Otsuki line to the stone-paved shrine entrance. Multiple winding pathways and several hundred feet of stairs up a tree-covered hill. Pass the pagoda to climb one more stairway, turn around and behold! The...More
We picked a day in December when the forecast was for clear blue skies and we weren't disappointed. We took a train from Shinjuku to Otsuki and changed to a local train from Otsuki to Shimoyoshida. From Shimoyoshida station, follow the drawings of the pagoda...More

Hey there Melissa. I'm going to do my best to answer your question, assuming it's not too late by now. The best way (without your own car) is going to be by bus. I did this trip in the opposite direction so I'll write this as if I was going the way you are looking to go.
I had to take three (yep..) separate buses on this trip. The bus line I took started from Gora station in Hakone and ended at the Gotemba Premium Outlets. From there you would have to change to a bus that would take you to Gotemba Train Station. And from there you would need to get on a bus that would take you to Mt. Fuji Station in Fujiyoshida.
Once arriving at Mt. Fuji Station, the best way forward will be to take the train to Shimoyoshida Station. Then you can hike up to the park/Shrine/overlook area.
At the time I was using the Hakone Free Pass, so all these bus trips and train travel was "free", as part of purchasing the pass.
