This was a stop on a cruise excursion. There was a rather steep but short downhill path to the beach which might be difficult or impossible for those with limitations. It is a beautiful and popular beach, however, and well worth the effort. I wish...More

The beaches are very quiet, with black sand galore. Very nice to stop, explore and listen to the sounds of nature. If the weather is nice, take a snack and enjoy eating outside.

Dupalonssandur is a black sand beach with lava formations, very wide, with a lot of bones, driftwood, boat parts strewn around. You don't have to walk down to the beach if you want to just view it from the parking area on top.

We were sorry to find the pathway down to the beach was under maintenance but walked along the path to the left of the overlook and managed to get down to this unique black pebble beach.
