We stopped off here on the way from Queenstown to Lake Tekapo. Unfortunately the weather was somewhat overcast so we didn't get to see the lake at its best, but it was still a very attractive place and well worth a short break.

Even though Lake Pukaki was still beautiful on a cloudy day, we would have really liked to have had a view of the mountains as well. The exceptional blue waters of the lake were stunningly visible and no less blue.

Maybe because of the time and sunlight, the colour was not as what we expected. The salmon sold in the shop was delicious which I highly recommend. Please avoid the coffee! You will appreciate my warning.

My partner and I drove a campervan, camping overnight is free. Pretty sight and there's a nearby mound to just sit by and watch the sun set behind the mountainous skyline. Would recommend shades if you plan to sit outside since the sun sets in...More
