The drive across from San Giovanni D’Asso to Asciano and then back to Buonconvento is fabulous. The road is very twisty and offers exciting driving but the views either side are some if the best in Tuscany. Worth a drive if you have been to...More

We drove this area after reading a Rick Steves guidebook where he highly recommends a loop drive south of Sienna. It is absolutely beautiful countryside with very little to mar the views that go on for miles. No photo can really do it justice. We...More

What a wonderful drive we had through the Crete Senesi, especially between Asciano and San Giovanni d'Asso. The landscape was so green and was punctuated with swaths of wheat, fields of yellow rapeseed (used to make canola oil), and poppies. Here and there the clay...More

Driving through this area was delightful. It's known for its rolling hills and sometimes lunar landscape! The changing shadows on the land as the sun moves across the sky is something to see!

If you want a beautiful drive through Tuscany, this is it. It offers "big sky" vistas of a range of sparsely settled hills and woods that you will miss on the more heavily traveled autostrada. Along with the sweeping landscape it includes the beautiful monastery...More

We took this drive, south of Siena, in late October. It was very scenic, with lots of opportunities to pull over for photos. You will see some very Tuscan scenes on this drive. This area is much different than other areas of Tuscan, such as...More

As others have said, the strange almost lunar landscape is well worth seeing. It is very different to the rest of Tuscany. My only advice would be to go earlier in the year than we did (we drove through in August). The cereal crops had...More
