We were lucky when we went to theYelow stone National Park.

Last year (2018) when we went to Lamar Valley there was a minimum of 3,000 bison. So awesome to see. Some were on the road and so close if we had rolled our windows down we could have reached out and touched them.

Take an easy drive through the valley and see most of Yellowstone's large wildlife. The views are spectacular with rivers, grazing areas and mountains. There are plenty of pull offs and trails to enjoy.
We loved traveling through here at the end of the day. SO many species of wildlife and it is such a peaceful setting in general. I would think a person could pull off the road and just BE there...for hours on end seeing so many...More
Bisons are everywhere, even in the middle of the road. Drive carefully around the turning.
On late afternoon we saw many more wildlife(bears, elk, moose, deer).
They are not only in Lamar Valley, but on the way there.

We found fuel at the Snow Lodge (no service - credit card only) and in Gardiner. I think Canyon Village had fuel, but not sure. It might be an idea to ask your question in the Yellowstone forum, as there are lots of helpful... More
