Last year (2018) when we went to Lamar Valley there was a minimum of 3,000 bison. So awesome to see. Some were on the road and so close if we had rolled our windows down we could have reached out and touched them.

5.30 out of bed in Cooke City to Lamar Valley. Then to see in the early light to see a few wolves and a grizzly bear close together, then to see at least 12 wolves chasing a grizzly bear across the open hillside, the grizzly...More

This is truly the Serengeti of Yellowstone. So much wildlife is present here. If you hike the trail for 12km there is a campground where you can spend the night.

After trying to see animals throughout the day two days in a row and seeing little, we decided to get up early and drive to Lamar Valley. We were not disappointed. On the way in, we saw a mountain lion (apparently very rare). On a...More

We travelled thru this valley several times during our long stay at Yellowstone and we never failed to see some wildlife like prong horn, buffalo or elk. This is the place to go for viewing

Lamar Valley is part of Yellowstone National Park thats great to search for bison, bears, elk, and grey wolf. If you have a camera some wonderful opportunities.

Take an easy drive through the valley and see most of Yellowstone's large wildlife. The views are spectacular with rivers, grazing areas and mountains. There are plenty of pull offs and trails to enjoy.

This is the best way to see wildlife. We saw bison, wolves, elk, and pronghorns up close. There are also grizzly bears but they were farther off. Bring your camera!

We loved traveling through here at the end of the day. SO many species of wildlife and it is such a peaceful setting in general. I would think a person could pull off the road and just BE there...for hours on end seeing so many...More

Bisons are everywhere, even in the middle of the road. Drive carefully around the turning. On late afternoon we saw many more wildlife(bears, elk, moose, deer). They are not only in Lamar Valley, but on the way there.

We found fuel at the Snow Lodge (no service - credit card only) and in Gardiner. I think Canyon Village had fuel, but not sure. It might be an idea to ask your question in the Yellowstone forum, as there are lots of helpful... More

IMHO,that's too.much for one day, mostly because Lamar deserves more of your time! Traffic can, at times be an issue also.
