We went to see this church on the strength of guidebook reviews. We had not checked their website prior to going, and were disappointed to see the high entry fee ($10/$8). While we were perusing the small bookstore associated with the cathedral, several other individuals...More

Worth a few minutes to stop in and reflect. Also, nice escape from hustle of NYC. Close to shopping and great restaurants.

What a disappointment. There was nothing to see and it was a building site. To cap it all, they were still charging admission! Avoid for the present

The whole thing is under construction right now so there’s nothing to see. But they still charged $5 per person. Avoid until they’re done. Completely disappointing.

I have been attending this church for the past seven years. It is not a friendly place, there is no community, but it was the nearest place to my apartment. I like Steven Lee's and Daniel Clifton's sermons, although Clifton repeats the same story about...More

Our guide was exceptional. He was animated, dynamic, engaging, and knowledgeable. He worked diligently to give us a good tour despite the fact that cathedral is under renovation from the fire. The noise level was terrible. If I had it to do again, I would...More

The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine is an impressive structure, and is a venue not only for religious services but also for artistic endeavors.

We came to this operational church totally unprepared for what awaited us. It was referenced several times in Joan Didion's "The Year of Magical Thinking", which spurred my interest. To begin with the outside garden (free) has a fantastical huge sculpture surrounded by, perhaps, nearly...More

Begun in 1892, the Episcopal cathedral St John the Divine is still technically unfinished--and will be perpetually, by design. It is the single largest cathedral in the world, and the fourth largest building. That alone makes it worth seeing, since the interior is enormous and...More

I've been to many Cathedrals throughout Europe. This Cathedral is awesome. We were here to attend a Sanctuary performance and the entire performance was excellent. The performers, musicians and organizers did a wonderful job with this event. It was nice to see the lighting expressing...More

You can go to St. John in pretty casual clothes, even for services and holidays. I was at the Feast of St. Francis recently and many were wearing jeans (including me) and polo shirts (even some t shirts).

You'll need to contact the church, but my recall is about 2 1/2-3 hours.
