Very high falls, beautiful sight, we did the circle route which took about 30 min, the road is paved and easy. It was a rainy day so pics are foggy but it was still worth it. You have to pay the entrance fee 1$/p or...More

This is yet another beautiful place in Hawaii. The vegetation is lush and lovely. I think it took us about 20 minutes to walk to where we could see the falls which are over 400 feet tall. There are a lot of steps. We were...More

A lovely walk on a concrete path through a tropical rain forest to the falls. The flowers and the vegetation along the way are spectacular ! It is a definite site to see.

We came for the falls, but fell in love with the lush botanic garden along the walk to the falls. Particularly striking as we were staying at Waikola Beach, the desert/lava side of the island.

Enjoyed the visit here. Nothing to keep you more than 30 minutes. Toilet facilities available. Most tours stop here.

Parking is $5 but worth it. The circular trail to the falls lookout is paved and you have a choice of going left for the shorter segment. Depending on the time of the year there are lots of flowers. This is a must see place....More

Great little walk. Paved path with some beautiful flowers and lizards on the way. Stop by for a leisurely visit.

You had to pay for parking and access and you get nowhere near the falls. The view you do get though was nice and good trail for exercise.

The half mile paved walk to Akaka Falls wanders through the rainforest. You'll be surrounded by lush and varied vegetation and the sounds of the coqui frogs. The spectacular waterfall drops 442 feet. Take time to read the info about the interesting native goby fish...More

The walk to Akaka Falls is not very long and is easy. The waterfall is beautiful and wonderful to photograph. BUT READ ON! There are arrows that suggest going to see a second waterfall. They don't tell you how far it is or that there...More

I can't remember how far Akaka state park is from Hilo. The state park can be seen in one hour or you can spend a whole half day, because it is a very beautiful place. But add travel time. Check Sat-nav readings for that

I walked the paved pathway wearing flip flops with no difficulty at all. So the shoes you describe should be fine.
