This place is awesome. Its hard to believe without seeing in person just how grand and extensive it is. The grounds are beautiful and the tour is really well done.

We had a visit to Hearst Castle planned for the morning before we hit the road again on our West Coast drive. We just did the grand rooms tour, and if we weren't on a time schedule I would have stayed all day at this...More

Utterly fascinating from the architecture to the family history, the hold-over wild animals along the drive up to the stunning vistas as far as the eye can see!

We went on the Grand Tour at Hearst Castle and it was amazing. We learned so many things like William Randall Hearst called this home Hearst Ranch. It was the public who called it a castle. Probably because of the architecture style. We are looking...More

Don't miss the Castle! Hearst built this masterpiece around his collection of fireplaces and ceilings - yes ceilings! There is artwork from all over Europe - at times it's like visiting Egypt, later France or Italy. There are several different tours and all of them...More

More of a Grand Palace than a castle, but this very interesting palatial building has lots to offer - but at a price. We did the Grand Rooms and Upstairs Suites tours. We pre booked and had to pay $8 per ticket 'Registration Fee' on...More

I appreciate Trip Advisor for all the pre-trip advice I read. I just wanted to add to the reviews. This is so worth a visit. San Simeon is in the middle of nowhere seemingly, that is because William Randolph Hearst bought most of the acreage...More

Never been there, but, was personally invited years ago by Mr. RA Hearst and his personal, executive assistant, Karen Mitchell, from NYC. They are/were both, gracious, kind, and unassuming people. I look forward to visiting... More

I'd arrive ten or fifteen minutes early. The tour time begins at the Visitor Centre so they'll call the 10.40am tour and corral you into an area prior to boarding the coach that takes you up to the castle. It's all run in... More
