Amazingly, the ruins of this 6th or 8th century church were not discovered until the 1990s.

The mosaics on the floor of the Byzantine Church in Petra are a must see. They are so vibrant still after all this time and are remarkably well preserved. The chuch is located under an awning- style roof up the hill from the colonnaded street....More

The Byzantine Church is located in the center of the ancient city, at the North of Colonnaded Street. The ruins contain some trunks of columns and a very well preserved mosaic on the floor.

One must hike up the hill to this site, (with a great view of the Royal Tombs) but the mosaic floor is wonderfully preserved and rather unexpected. It would be easy to miss it, since the hike from the Siq and down the Wadi is...More

There are some columns and a few lovely mosaics but other than that, not much left of this ruin. The history though is important - especially as churches were not Byzantine staples. Also, it is a fairly recent discovery - excavated between 1992-1996.

Ruins of a church being restored as we visited. Very impressive ground mosaics is the highlight of this site. Worth small climb up the hill from the main trail.

We almost missed this because it wasn't pointed out by our tour guide and is covered by a white canopy that seemed out of place (like it was covering an office or work space of some kind, not a typical sight). I'm so glad a...More

If you can spend two or three FULL days in Petra, it will worth your time visiting it. If you are on a rush to see as much as you can fast, stay on the red main route. It is good but not a must,...More

I'm not sure if it's about that, because the picture clearly shows something else, but there are remains of two churches in Petra. One of them has preserved mosaic, including one with a partly naked woman, which I found surprising. It is covered with a...More

There is nothing much left, just some pieces of mosaics and some pieces of columns. Was nice to see the intricate details engraved on the stones.
