We hired a private car service to see the Batalha Monastery, the Alcobaca Monastery and the Convent of Christ in Tomar -- all in one day. The three places are all spectacular. The Convent of Christ is our third stop. The courtyard is a wonder....More

For those of us who are fascinated by the intentionally distorted story of the Templar’s, or as they will come to be called, Knights of Christ, in Portugal, this is Mecca. It turns out the entire Templar tale is as much Portuguese as French. This...More

So sorry we didn't time our trip well to spend at least a couple hours here. We basically ran through in an hour and it deserves much more time. Our favorite city in Portugal.

A lot more reasonable to get in than most castles in Portugal and an incredible spot, the history is amazing and you can take pictures inside but no flash. It also nowhere near as crowded as Sintra. The entry fee is 6 Euros per person.

Amazing architecture and history. We have become interested in the Knights Templar after watching a history program about them. This is a must see in the region. It is also worth reading about the castle and convent and the Knights Templar and Knights of Christ...More

Definitely worth a visit - we arrived right when it opened and had the whole place tl ourselves for 15 minutes. Magical! Takes abour 2 hours to see everything. Walking from the city centre is not bad at all. Bring water!
