The best thing about Merzouga is that you can drive your personal rental car really close to that highest dune in Erg Chebbi. Just enter Merzouga through the town gate / arch, pass those really annoying and persistent locals that want to take you to the dunes for 60 euro / hour

This was our first experience in a desert and it was amazing. In Morocco the are a lot of tour operator that can bring you into Erg Chebbi (merzouga) or Zagora. Zagora is not like Merzouga! If you want to find high san dunes (up to 150 mt) choose Merzouga
