This whole area of St Petersburg is just amazing. The architecture is some of the best in the World and we never at any time felt intimidated or unsafe, although they do warn you about pickpockets. The artwork in these buildings are fabulous and a...More

The General staff building is located in front of Hermitage Museum, on the other side of Palace Square, which is located in the center of Saint Petersburg, the main city in the North-Western region of Russian Federation. It is a very beautiful building, where there...More

The General Staff building is just on the other side of the square from the Winter Palace. It was a great start to our walking tour.

This collection is part of the Hermitage but in another building. It is probably the largest collection of Impressionist art in one museum and well worth a visit. Warning: once you have left the exhibition to go into the museum coffee shop you are not...More

The exterior of the building is classical but the interior is modern: enjoy how they have both preserved the exterior appearance and repurposed the inteior. The collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings is impressive.

I walked the city centre and entered the walkway towards Palace Square. I passed through The General Staff Building and was amazed at the architecture. It is a very long curved building with many details, a piece of artwork versus a building. Unfortunately I did...More

They did a phenomenal renovation inside for their modern art exhibitions. The architecture of it is amazing. I loved the glass stairs in between the concrete steps. Very well done bringing a traditional building into the modern world. The impressionist collection was nice too.

The General Staff Building is almost as imposing as the Winter Palace in the Palace Square. While it is still used by the Russian military, limited tours are available. It has a rich history and is worthy of further exploration. Thanks for your vote.
