The man made dwellings that are chipped into the rocky hill make a marvellous sight. It does look like a huge termite nest from far.

Once you have done a hot air balloon ride during sunrise, come here for the sunset. Uchisar castle is the highest point in Goreme and you get great view of the entire region from here. You can see all the small villages like Cavusin, Avanos,...More
This was a cab trip from Goreme and we loved it. The castle is just a structure and the steps are a bit scary but at the top the view is fantastic in all directions. Followed by a chai/ coffee at the Cantrell cab stand....More
We decided to hike up to the castle from the town, which was really enjoyable as we get to explore the chimney houses along the way. The view at the top of the castle was simply amazing. You get great 360 views as this is...More

The amazing castle within the stone. Be ready for hiking with great height. Carry water bottles. Your tour guide may not give time for hiking but you must ask him for that. Its take around 1 hr to go up and 1 hr back.

Uchisar and the castle. you may need a couple of hours, however it is a great place to have as a base to explore the whole region. We stayed at Ansia Hotel at the base of the castle, highly recommended and owner speaks English and has also worked as a tour guide so is a wealth of useful information. By the way you can walk through pigeon valley from Uchisar to Goreme, a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
