Well worth the effort to get there, much is not easily accessible and some parts are off limits for conservation reasons but visit be boat and take small boat excursions. It is Europe's only lowland pristine biosphere
We went on a boat that held about 80 people. Our guide was very informative and held our interest for the 3.5 hour long trip. Refreshments were available to buy on the boat, along with a map of the delta giving details of the wildlife...More

Its an interesting place on a small boat but it seems like the large number of boats frightens many birds away.
Having said that we managed to see pelican, stork, swan, crested grebe, herons of every type, egrets and possibly a meantime sparrowhawk.

Danube Delta is a great and unforgettable experience. I would definitely choose a hotel, with full service regarding transportation and fishing. For Bucharest accommodation, I would recommend a hotel in the center of the city, like Continental Hotel (lovely and elegant) boutique hotel)or Novotel Hotel, which are located on a nice promenade called Calea Victoriei. Enjoy yr time!
