Independence Plaza is surrounded by very interesting architecture. In its center is a monument to Artigas, the father of Uruguay. The plaza borders the Old Town.
Great city square near Canadian Consulate, next to Radisson Hotel, and lovely pedestrian streets with cafes, museums (which are all free in Montevideo), theatres and cultural events.
Not much else to say apart from this is on the edge of a nice downtown shopping area with good bars and restaurants
Worth a visit. Its above a memorial to their fallen war dead co.plete with a 24/7 honor guide. Well maintained.
This is a very pleasant square with architecturally pleasant buildings and monuments. Sit down for a while and watch the world go by or a coffee in a nearby cafe.
